Sidney Ray `Morel

A resident of Pointe Coupee and native of Watson, he died on May 10, 2013 along with his father as a result of an automobile accident. He was 47 years old and employed by Cajun /IDC as an iron worker.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs beginning at 3:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm. Burial will take place at 1:00pm on Monday, May 13, 2013 in St. Roch Cemetery #2 in New Orleans. He is survived by his devoted wife Darlene "Honey" Poirier Morel , mother, Dee Morel White, three children, Ashley, Lane and Aubri, sister, Shawn Poole, nephew, Austin Poole and his extended family in Canada. Honorary pallbearers will be, Terry Vermaelen, Mark Edelman, Wally Hollier, Ken Schaffer, Brett Sonnier, Dennis Morel and Paul Poirier of Canada.

Cody Jackson Holmes passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014. He was 22, a native of Pointe Coupee Parish and a resident of New Roads. Cody was a big teddy bear, who was very protective of his family and a best friend to his 5 nieces and nephews, who he adored. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, music, dancing and singing along to Elvis. He also enjoyed working and hanging out with his friends. He was employed at Turner Industries - IPS and a student at ITT. Cody was a Volunteer Firefighter with Pointe Coupee Parish Fire District No. 3.

Visiting will be at Niland's Funeral Home in New Roads, La., on Monday, July 7, 2014, from 6 to 9 p.m. and at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Roads on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Monsignor Robert Bergreen. Survivors include his mother, Mary L. Jarreau and husband Mark; his father, Michael R. Holmes and wife Kimberly; sisters, Amanda H. David and husband Cody, and Raychel M. Holmes and friend Joshua Schafer; a brother, Ory M. Holmes and wife Kelsey; nieces and nephews, Maci, Ryland and Kinley David, and Naythan and Christopher Holmes; maternal grandparents, Louis and Margaret LeCoq; and paternal grandfather, Robert W. Holmes. Preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Maude G. Jarreau and Tilda B. LeCoq; and paternal great-grandparent, May R. Holmes. Pallbearers will be Ory Holmes, Robert Neal Holmes, Jamie LeCoq, Justin LeCoq, Stephen Lofton and Micheal Ashcraft. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Stelly, Joe Ashcraft and Skyler Perkins.

A wonderful wife and loving mother and grandmother “Nana Kat” who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She passed away at 10:23 pm Sunday October 9, 2016 at her home in Natchez, Mississippi. She was 52 years old. A native of Farmerville, La. and former resident of Pointe Coupee Parish having lived in Natchez, Mississippi for the last two years. Visiting will be held at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads on Thursday October 13, 2016 from 5 pm until 8 pm and on Friday October 14, 2016 from 9:30 am until Religious Services in the funeral home at 11:30 am. Conducted by Joe Holmes. Interment to follow at False River Memorial Park. 

She was survived by her husband of 28 years, Jody Ashcraft of Natchez, Mississippi; parents, Jimmie Coats of Farmerville, La. and Mary Dunn of Jena, La.; daughters, Nicole Coats of Missouri and Ashley Kegarise of Texas; sons, Micheal Ashcraft and girlfriend Mallorie Kennon of Pointe Coupee Parish, Zack Ashcraft and wife Kristina of Adams County, Joseph Ashcraft Jr. and girlfriend Amanda Nagim of St. Landry Parish; sisters, Sonia Calloway of Cleveland, Texas and Julia Roberts of West Monroe, La.; brothers, Lynn Coats and Jim Coats both of Farmerville, La.; grandchildren, Wesley Coats, Christopher Talley, Jason Talley, Cameron Talley, Micheal Patrick Ashcraft, Jasmine Ashcraft, Hunter Kegarise and Skylar Ashcraft. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law Delbert Ashcraft and Stepfather Roy Ennis. Pallbearers will be Michael Stelly, Tait Slocum, Rodney Higginbotham, Gil Vallion, Randall McKenzie and Gordon Chustz. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews. She was a member of Pointe Coupee Fire District 3 and Mustard-Senning Survivors Support Group.

Ray Lynn “Big Ray” Barentine, 72, a native of Prattsville, Arkansas and a resident of Ventress, Louisiana, was born on July 22, 1944 and passed away on April 9, 2017. He was retired from NRG with thirty years of service, a member of United Steelworkers of America AFL-CIO-Local 9059, and also a volunteer firefighter with District 3 fire department for over twenty-five years. He is survived by three children: a son, Ralph Barentine and wife Candace of Ventress, a daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Allen and husband William of Ventress, a son Leonard Barentine, of Dallas, North Carolina, and three granddaughters, Joni Bersuder, Phoebe and Samantha Allen of Ventress, and a brother Charles (Dink) Barentine of Sherman, Texas. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Barentine, parents Leonard and Virginia Barentine, and two brothers, Chester and Travis Barentine. The family would like to send a special thank you to P. C. Hospice and nurses Cassie, Amanda, Jackie, and Jo Ann for the wonderful care they have given our dad during his final days. Visiting will be held at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 10 am until religious service in the funeral home at 2 pm. conducted by Rev. Don Taylor.

RAY'S LAST CALL

Mr. Bobby Joe Strozier, age 70, of Trout, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Dubuis Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana. Due to Covid19, A memorial service will follow at a later date.

Mr. Strozier loved his family, was a friend to all, always had a warm smile and a joke and will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his family, Bobby loved firefighting. He was the Eden Fellowship volunteer Fire Chief and also instructed firefighting as an Instructor with LSUFETI. Mr. Strozier was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of Belah United Methodist Church in Trout, loved gardening and was a magician! He was preceded in death by his father, John David Strozier and a brother, Johnnie Dale Strozier.


Mr. Strozier is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ivy Strozier of Trout, La.; two daughters, Bobbi Jo Day (Michael) of Pineville and Britney Strozier of Kalamazoo, MI; one son, Bryan Strozier (Rebecca) of Olive Branch, MS; his mother, Elaine Strozier of Ball, La; a sister, Rita Rebouche (Carl) of Covington, La and a brother, James Strozier (Lisa) of Franklin VA; nine grandchildren, Brendan Day, Amelia Jane Strozier, Rowan Day, Sarah Strozier, Naomi Strozier, Maggie Kate Strozier, Austin Dando, Phoebe Strozier, Claudia Dando and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services, 904 DeVille Lane, Ruston, Louisiana, 71270.
